Frequently Asked Questions
What is direct primary care?
Direct primary care is good old-fashioned medicine. The Doctor and the patient. No insurance companies. No fees for services. One affordable monthly price for personalized care and wellness planning. With a small patient panel, the doctor has plenty of time for you and your family.
What does my membership include?
Your membership includes all of the visits, in-house services, planning, plus discounts on labs, medications, vaccines, and more.
Is Direct Primary Care the same as health insurance?
No. Direct primary care is not health insurance. It is a direct contract with you and your personal doctor. No other parties involved.
Why join when I already have health insurance?
We encourage our patients to continue with their health insurance but choosing a high deductible plan/catastrophic plan. Emergencies happen and occasionally you need emergent or specialist care that accepts your health insurance.
Do I need to sign a contract?
There is a simple contract between you and the doctor directly outlining our services and fees. There is no annual contract. While we hope to serve you for many years to come you may cancel at any time without any cancellation fees. If you do decide to return to Zivkovic Family Medicine, P.A. in the future, there will be a nonrefundable re-enrollment fee of $200.
Is Direct Primary Care the same as concierge medicine?
No, although both provide individualized care for you. Concierge medicine offers 24/7 care, home visits, and comes at a great cost, sometimes as much as 3-4 times what you will pay for Direct Primary Care. Our goal with DPC is to reduce your costs and continue to give great quality affordable medical care through the personalized attention and membership discounts.
Can I use my HSA to pay for my monthly membership?
Although Direct Primary Care is your medical care, you will have to consult with your tax specialist. The government has not clearly defined if DPC is a qualified medical expense. HSA can be used for your medications, labs, and imaging.
What if I don’t visit my doctor frequently, how will DPC help me?
While many of our patients don't visit monthly, the benefits of the DPC model apply to everyone. We never know when illness or injury will occur, so having a close, personal relationship with your doctor who is ready to help is essential. Having an annual physical and lab testing helps with prevention and early diagnosis of unforeseen health issues. Being a member of Zivkovic Family Medicine, P.A. - Direct Primary Care will allow you to come in for issues that you might not feel are major, but help ease the mind when evaluated.
What are some added benefits of DPC?
You can get your annual physical any time in the year - no need to
wait a year and a day like with traditional insurance plans.
No more copays.
Phone call appointments, when appropriate, can save you from missing time at work.

If I have Medicare, can I still join?
Yes, but you will need to sign a one time waiver that states that neither you nor Dr. Zivkovic will bill medicare directly for any services. You will still be able to use the Medicare for specialist visits, labs, imaging and other services.
Why did we change to Direct Primary Care?
We have been taking our time caring for patients for years. When we discovered that the DPC model would allow us to work with patients directly instead of jumping hurdles placed by insurance companies, we realized this is what would benefit our patients the most. We can more easily put our philosophy into practice. It is our belief that caring for the patient, taking time to listen, and treating the whole patient are essential to health and wellness. If you have met the Doctors, then you should know that they take their time with each and every patient. With direct primary care, we have fewer patients so this means even more time with you.
